Leonore Schuetz, M.S.

I am a licensed marriage and family therapist, with specialties in EMDR for trauma reduction for adults and children, and play therapy for children and adults. My master’s degree in Counseling & Marriage and Family Therapy at California State University at Northridge in 2004 and state licensure in 2006 are due in part to my husband of 30 years and my three grown children.  My graduate training and internships included working with sexually abused children and their families, children who had witnessed domestic violence, and helping children cope with the separation or divorce of their parents. I received intensive play therapy training at the Free Clinic of Simi Valley.

While adults might accept that we don’t live in an ideal world and that there will be hurts and losses to deal with, when it comes to children, we may wish we could somehow protect them from pain. But our children are living life with us and they will inevitably share our grief, or witness our hurts, and they may suffer their own unique traumas, diseases, anxiety, depression, losses, or have complex social or learning problems.

Some parents and caregivers can experience a jumble of mixed emotions after they begin to recognize that their children may need the extra help and support of therapy to cope with their problems. Children, depending on their age, may have no tools but the language of play to work out their troubles and heal their hurts. As a play therapist, with a specialty in the trauma-reducing therapy, EMDR, I can help support overwhelmed parents by helping to identify what’s troubling their children and I can therapeutically guide their children through the maze of confusion to the light of personal feelings of well-being and competency.

My joy is to provide a safe, healing environment where children can work through their traumas, learn new coping skills and witness their return to a more adjusted, happy life with their families, friends and school environments. My joy is also to work with adults and couples who are motivated to improve their relationships.   Please call me at 805-583-3976 x 34 for more information or to schedule an appointment.

Families Counseling is the practice site of several licensed marriage, family and child counselors, and licensed clinical social workers,  who operate their own independent and separate private practices. The therapists here enjoy the opportunity to share office space, facilitate a professional exchange of expertise, and learn about each other's areas of specialty.

Each therapist's practice is separate, and each is solely and entirely responsible for any liabilities resulting from that practice.

Families Counseling  is owned by Deborah Tucker, M.A., M.F.T. (Lic. #ML 17142).
