Deborah Tucker, M.A., Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

Deborah Tucker, Simi Valley therapist and counselor

Hello.  Since you're visiting this website, it may be that you are thinking of starting therapy.  There is a lot of information about therapy, marriage counseling and all sorts of practical issues in our "What is Therapy?" section, so here let me tell you a little bit about me and how I work with clients.

I've been in practice for over 25 years, and really enjoy my work with clients.  It's an honor to join people on their personal journey, and to be a part of the important changes they make during that time.  The best summary of my work is this:  I help people have better relationships -- with their families, with their spouse, and with themselves.

I work primarily with individual adults and teens, and with couples.  If you are struggling with depression, anxiety, a sense of feeling stuck, or just want to change some unproductive patterns in your life and your relationships, chances are we will work well together.  At our first session, we will work together to determine what your strengths are, what is not working, and what you want to be different.

My style of working varies depending on what you want and need.  I help couples and families improve their relationships by helping them learn to express and understand the "buttons" that get pushed when we are dealing with our loved ones.  My commitment to marriages is very strong, and my experience is that any couple who willing to come to marriage counseling has a strong likelihood of success.

If you are coming to therapy on your own, you may be wanting to change current patterns that don't work, or perhaps to heal pain from the past.   I have completed specialized training in EMDR and hypnosis.   If you have experienced emotional, physical or sexual abuse, you may want to read more about EMDR, a highly effective technique for trauma from childhood and also from upsetting experiences like car accidents and robberies. Hypnotherapy can be very helpful for stress management, changing behavior habits, and coping with chronic medical problems.  These are just two possibilities of methods we can use to work together to achieve the changes that you want.

If you're wondering about my background, I have a B.A. in psychology and an M.A. in Marriage, Family and Child Counseling.  I've been married over 30 years, and have raised two "twenty-something" sons.  I am a practicing Christian, a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church here in Simi, and am honored that many of my referrals come a variety of local pastors of several denominations.

When you are ready, please feel free to contact me by phone at 805-583-3976 x 33,  and we can discuss your situation more personally.  If you like, please take a look at some of my brochures.  You can also view a list of my professional organization memberships.  If you prefer, you may contact me

Therapists practicing at Families Counseling Center

Families Counseling Center is composed of several licensed marriage, family and child counselors, and licensed clinical social workers,  who operate their own independent and separate private practices. The therapists here enjoy the opportunity to share office space, facilitate a professional exchange of expertise, and learn about each other's areas of specialty.

Each therapist's practice is separate, and each is solely and entirely responsible for any liabilities resulting from that practice.

Families Counseling Center  is owned by Deborah Tucker, M.A., M.F.T. (Lic. #ML 17142).
