I finally had a wonderfully relaxing Friday at home for the first time in a while, and it sure made a difference. I feel more relaxed, I actually got things done, but I didn’t rush. This is is one of things I wish I had learned when my kids were little, and even more so as they got older — don’t rush! In rushing, we miss so much, and we make our children feel pressured and unimportant.
Here’s a great post by special ed teacher Rachel May Stafford called, “The Day I Stopped Saying ‘Hurry Up'”. Read it and see what you think. It says it all better than I ever could.
Then if you want to really see a relaxed child, watch this beautiful YouTube video. The translated text at the bottom says it is a special technique and not to try to reproduce it, but it certainly gives the idea that taking time and enjoying the process is wonderful for all concerned.
Enjoy, and breathe!
